Inner Beauty Friday - Book Club!
Hello!
It is once again time for my link up with Blonde...Undercover Blonde and theNerdyKatie for Book Club!
So this week I read "Of Bees and Mist" by Erick Setiawan.
The Synopsis (via goodreads.com): "Of Bees and Mist is an engrossing fable that chronicles three generations of women under one family tree and places them in a mythical town where spirits and spells, witchcraft and demons, and prophets and clairvoyance are an everyday reality.
Meridia grows up in a lonely home until she falls in love with Daniel at age sixteen. Soon, they marry, and Meridia can finally escape to live with her charming husband’s family—unaware that they harbor dark mysteries of their own. As Meridia struggles to embrace her life as a young bride, she discovers long-kept secrets about her own past as well as shocking truths about her new family that push her love, courage, and sanity to the brink."
My Thoughts: OK, the supernatural elements of this book are all over the board, no one knows what they mean they just accept ghosts and mists that grab people and there is no explanation to the reader about the meaning or how or why. Then the characters are just miserable for the most part. Girl grows up in a house with unloving parents, gets married at 16 moves to house with beyond evil step mother and has a life full of strife (as does everyone around her) from there out. All the husbands are cheaters. I felt like I just didn't "get" it, I know not all books should have a "happy" ending, but perhaps just an ending! This just seemed to end with the start of another go round of problems. I think this is one of those books you will Love or Hate.
Until Next Week!

Holy cow, how disappointing! The synopsis sounds sooo good!
ReplyDeleteLike I said, you'll either love or hate this book. After I read it I looked at the review on goodreads.com and a lot of people REALLY liked it. But the synopsis is way off...
