Blog Every Day in May - Day 8

Hello!

So far I've made it a week straight posting everyday!  Yea for consistency!

Today's prompt is: : A piece of advice you have for others. Anything at all.

I'm a bit older than most beauty bloggers and into to skincare - so of course I'm going to say "Wear Sunscreen!"  You guys would slather it on if you saw what I see on a daily basis, I cannot even tell you how much it ages the skin - and how many girls have said to me "I wish I would have protected my skin".

#2 Don't pick at your face - seriously.  I have heard it, heard it & heard it & I didn't listen and now I have scars and its just silliness and so avoidable.

#3 Go after the things you really love- don't settle.

Ok enough of my old lady advice.

Tell us about your first job. Did you love it or was it horrendous?

Seriously where were the child labor laws when I was 12. The summer before 8th grade, I was a nanny for 3 boys (ages 8, 6 and 3) and the family wanted me to clean the house too.  I watched them from 8am until 2pm, 4 days a week and made them 2 meals, but I was 12 !  And there were 3 of them!   It was so stressful and probably cemented my decision not to have kids.  I also made $50 a week (seriously?? that was like $2 an hour..). But it was 1990 and the mom of the family was a "professional wallpaper-er" she actually was on HGTV back in the day, and she wallpapered the rooms in the house my mom wanted done as part  of the deal so my Mom got the majority of the financial benefit.  Way to pimp me out mom!
But my parents insisted I work, because hanging around the house in the summer was not an option.  So I have been working for 21 years!

  1. People always assume I'm younger than I am I know that its because every face product I use has SPF. Once you ruin your skin, thats it. I almost wrote about smoking....which is also causes wrinkles.

    1. I had a co-worker who was 25 and tanned and smoked and drank heavily - she looked 40. I know you need to have fun in life, but man that's a lot of damage at once!

  2. Sunscreen and no tanning, these are two things I've done religiously for as long as I can remember and truly believe that is part of the reason why I still look younger than I am.
Whew, I feel you about the babysitting. At that age, I babysat my siblings (there was 5 of them), cooked, and clean. Of course, allowance was never part of the deal.

    1. When I first started reading your blog if I would have had to guess your age I would have said 25 max - your skin is soooo lovely! I know you are a great mom to 3 kids but you don't have a wrinkle to show for it :)

  3. I would never have guessed your age (or Pang's!). You two are such good inspiration for wearing sunscreen. It's not "old lady" advice, it's truth!!

OMG I see why you would never have kids. Ugh. I babysat in high school for a bit with a bunch of infants and it was the best birth control in the world, let me tell you. Nothing like being spit up on over and over while a kid screams in your ear to make you not want kids!
